NEW SALEM — Jacquelyn M. Slavick, 79, New Salem, passed away at her home Aug. 15, 2017. Mass of Christian burial was held Aug. 19 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Dennis Schafer and the Rev. John Guthrie as concelebrants. Burial was at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Jackie was born on Aug. 17, 1937, to John and Magdalen Jochim, Flasher. She graduated from Flasher High School in 1956, obtained a teaching certificate from Dickinson State Teachers College in 1957, and taught school at a rural one-room school two years prior to marrying Robert E. Slavick on Oct. 6, 1959, in Flasher. Jackie was active for many years at St. Pius Catholic Church. Through the years, she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. Jackie was also an active member of the North Dakota Cattlewomen for 35 years where she served a term as president.

After losing her beloved husband last summer, Jackie appreciated the support she received from the LOTUS Grief Support Group at Parkway Funeral Home. Jackie wanted to go to Hawaii for her 80th birthday and was able to fulfill that wish this past July. She was grateful to have her grandson, Robert Daniel, living with her the past 14 months.

Jackie will be missed by her children, Robert J. (Kathleen) Slavick, Mandan, Ann (Jim) Fieser, Columbia, Mo., and Elizabeth Slavick, Medford, Ore.; her 10 grandchildren, Robert D., Kaitlyn and Kathryn Slavick, Tom, Sam and Joanie Fieser, and Emily, Timothy, Teresa and Michaela Schatz; her sisters, Angie (Alex) Schafer and Alouise Michlitsch; her brother, John (Kathleen) Jochim; and all of her nieces and nephews.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E., who died June 7, 2016; her parents; her sisters, Odell (Emil) Polensky, Joan (Bart) Ludwig and Nettie (Tony) Barth; a brother-in-law, Tony Michlitsch; and her nieces, Susie Barth and Sharon Schafer.
