Jack R. Schaaf, 92, Mandan, passed away July 19, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Benedict Place, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial was held July 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial was at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Jack was born Sept. 24, 1924, to Roy and Rosemary (Gerhardt) Schaaf in St. Anthony. He was raised and educated in that area. Jack married Florence Markel on Nov. 12, 1945, in St. Anthony. Jack worked for John Iverson Co., retiring in 1987. Jack was a friendly and very social guy and enjoyed visiting with people; Jack enjoyed playing the accordion, especially for family gatherings. He could fix anything and loved to tinker with something until he got it fixed. Jack and Florence loved to travel and made frequent trips to Renton and Tacoma, Wash. Above all Jack’s faith and family came first in his life; he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandchildren.

Jack will be deeply missed by his daughters, Rosemary Beer and Susan (Kenneth) Zander, all of Mandan; his sons, Ben L., Ron (Vicky), Tom (Carol) and Jack (Maralyn), all from Mandan; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Clara Schmidt, Tacoma, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Clara Markel, and brothers-in-law, Con (Liz) Markel and Steve (Kay) Markel, all from Mandan.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rosemary; his wife, Florence, who died June 8, 2014; his sisters, Maggie (Leo) Schaff and Julia (Steve) Schaff; his brothers, Phil, Christ (Clem) and an infant brother, Ralph; along with numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the North Dakota Alzheimer’s Association, 406 W. Main, Suite 105, Mandan, N.D. 58554.
