This riddle named Shape of Places is to challenge you to explore a map, globe, world atlas, almanac or resources on the Internet to identify the shape of a geographical area that is depicted in the Shape of Places square.
These shapes are not scaled to any standard. Large countries and small countries will take up about the same space within the square. There will be one hint provided at the bottom of the square. This hint may narrow your search to a smaller target of countries or be specific to the country represented. The answer will be provided in the next issue of The Mandan News.
Here are four general hints that apply to all riddles: (1) some small countries will not be found on a globe, (2) new countries will only be found in more recent publications, (3) some world almanacs have outline maps for each country represented and (4) the library reference desk has many resources. Morton Mandan Public Library is located at 609 W. Main St., downtown Mandan.
The solution for Shape of Places No. 218 is Tonga.
