Kaylee Kuntz opened Jocutla Coffee in her father’s flower shop at 211 W. Main St. in Mandan last week.
Jocutla gourmet, organic Mexican coffee was previously served by Spirit of Life Catholic Church. When the church stopped serving, Kuntz decided to take on the business as an addition to the offerings at Hirsch Florist.
The coffee is grown in the Veracruz region; all of the beans are hand-picked. Mayela Assad, who distributed the company’s coffee, said the beans, which are roasted and processed in Mexico, won top honors for brews in competition in Europe.
For Kuntz, the business venture was a chance to try something new that complements the flower shop. She serves espressos, cappuccinos, frappes, lattes and more, as well as selling whole and ground beans.
Assad said she was glad to find a new group to take over the coffee business locally. She said many people in Mandan have enjoyed the product.
Hours for Jocutla Coffee are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
