Merit semifinalists

Officials of National Merit Scholarship Corp. have announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.

Among the semifinalists are area students Jane C. Gowen, Century High School; Taylor Toso, Legacy High School; Stephanie A. Jorritsma, Shiloh Christian School; Cord J. Redding, Des Lacs-Burlington High School; Dawson J. Dutchak, Dickinson High School; Taylor A. Roehl, Elgin-New Leipzig High School; Madison S. Ashbach and Colton Carlson, Jamestown High School; Matthew J. Talley, homeschool, Minot; and Brody J. Armstrong, Minot High School-Magic City Campus.
