Best Warrior winner

Sgt. Timothy Sybrant, of Lincoln, was the winner in the noncommissioned officer category of the North Dakota Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition last month.

Sybrant is a member of the Jamestown-based 817th Engineer Company (Sapper).

He was presented the State Meritorious Service Medal as a competition winner. Each competitor in the four-day Best Warrior event was awarded the State Commendation Medal.

Sybrant will now prepare for the regional competition in May at Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Nagel gets award

Maj. Jason Nagel received the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command 2016 Instructor of the Year Award in the Army Reserve category at an awards ceremony Aug. 3 in Fort Eustis, Va.

Originally from Bismarck, Nagel is assigned to the 11th Battalion, 95th Regiment, 97th Training Brigade, 100th Training Division. His parents, Don Nagel and Diane Rothacker, live in Bismarck

Immediately after the awards ceremony a separate ceremony was held in which Nagel was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

Nagel, who has more than 23 years of Army service, is a classroom instructor/facilitator for National Guard and Army Reserve field grade officers in phases one and two of the three-phase Command and General Staff Officers College.

On the civilian side, Nagel teaches geography at Bozeman High School in Bozeman, Mont.
