Gunderson to teach in Uganda
Sister Nancy Gunderson, a Benedictine sister of the Annunciation Monastery, Bismarck, will teach in Uganda for a week in July.
“We needed to collect toothbrushes and toothpaste to take to Africa, and it just so happened that a bag of 150 of them were left over from a charity project the Sisters of Annunciation Monastery donated to,” Gunderson said.
The children at St. Philomena’s also need black Oxford-style shoes, with ties, as part of their school uniform so they can walk through the rough terrain to get from their villages to school.
Gunderson, a professor at the University of Mary, is engaging students with this project so they can use their skills to raise funds, apply for grants and make a difference in the lives of the orphans.
Gunderson is making a story art quilt to present to the children there. The quilt tells the story about St. Philomena and includes the names of the children who attend the school.
