Every December since 1985 a lone evergreen on the state capitol grounds shines bright for two statewide organizations: Mental Health America of North Dakota and North Dakota Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health. The lighted tree, located near the governor's residence on Fourth Street,  is now known as the Tree of Hope and serves as a beacon of light to help erase the stigma of mental illness and reminder of the need for advocacy for children and adults with mental health needs and their families.
