A lighting ceremony for the 2017 North Dakota State Christmas Tree will be conducted by Gov. Doug Burgum, first lady Kathryn Helgaas Burgum and Kim Shaw at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in Memorial Hall of the Capitol in Bismarck.
Live entertainment will be provided by pianist Joel Gilbertson, Bismarck Mandan Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble and Legacy High School Evolution and Gold Standard Vocal Ensembles. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
The tree will be decorated with ornaments handmade by children, students, artists and craftspeople from all over North Dakota, as has been the tradition since 1981. This year, 331 ornaments were donated to the state tree.
