A troupe of performers from Norway will perform in a cultural presentation, “Arvid – His Life,” at 7 p.m. Monday.
The performers will pay tribute to Arvid Hanssen, a cultural bearer, poet and author of books about the hardship of the Arctic cotters and farmers, their struggles and ordeals.
Performing will be Arne Ivar Hanssen, the son of Arvid Hanssen. Hanssen is a journalist and author. He has written a biography of the life and work of his father and is now a narrator/storyteller of his father's life and work. Trine Strand is a cultural performer, singer and songwriter. She performs low-key melodic songs as well as the poetic presentation of "Arvid - His Life," singing the songs of Arvid Hanssen. Emil Karlsen is an upcoming, young coastal Sami. He is inspired in his music by his roots and heritage. Karlsen will accompany Strand. Additional troupe members are Stina Fagertun and Catrine Pedersen.
The performing troupe is engaged in a cultural exchange with David "Doc" Brien from St. Ann’s Mission in Belcourt and will be attending the Norsk Høstfest in Minot. For more information, call 701-328-2792.
