Gordmans, a department store that sells a variety items like clothing, accessories, home decor and toys, is opening in Bismarck.

In fall 2014, Gordmans plans to open a 50,000-square-foot store in north Bismarck, the company said in an email.

The store will open in Hay Creek Shops, a new commercial development north of the north Walmart.

“Gordmans continues its rapid growth across the country, and it has made significant progress with its store expansion plans for 2014,” the email said. “Gordmans is in the process of adding 10 stores this year, with one of them recently opening in Minot.”

Bismarck City Planner Jason Tomanek said the Hay Creek development will take up about 33 acres on the east side of Highway 83 extending north up to the residential properties near Brookside Lane.

“In 33 acres of land you can do an awful lot,” Tomanek said. He added that the Pinehurst development is about 60 acres, making this development about half the size.

Another four acres will be taken up by roads. La Salle Drive will be extended to tie in with 19th Street to the southeast, Tomanek said.

Tomanek said so far the land has only been platted. He said the developers of Hay Creek Shops are targeting October for submitting site plans to the city.
