Frontier Airlines will begin charging for drinks and carry-on luggage for some customers.

"Frontier guarantees that customers will get the best value at," according to a press release.

The new bag fee will be between $25 and $100 for a carry-on bag. Customers who check-in for their flight on Frontier’s website will get cheaper rates.

"Frontier's most loyal customers have made it very clear that finding overhead bin space for carry-on bags has become unacceptably difficult," the release said.

Personal items that fit under the seat will still be allowed for free. A list of other items exempt from the carry-on bag fee is posted on

Bismarck Airport Manager Greg Haug said Allegiant Air has started charging all of its customers for carry-on bags within the last year and charged for beverages before that.

For Frontier customers who buy from outside websites and those who fly Economy, checked bag fees and drink service also will change. On July 1, lowest fare customers will pay $1.99 for coffee, tea, soda and juice.

The fee to check a first bag will stay at $20 when purchased online during check-in at Those purchasing at the airport will pay $25 with tickets booked on or after June 1 for travel on or after July 11.

Finally, Frontier will change its frequent flier program on July 1 for passengers who purchase from an outside site. Instead of 50 percent of the miles flown, they will only receive 25 percent. Economy, Classic and Classic Plus customers will keep the same frequent flier rates they had before.
