Ranchers have four days to apply for help with hay hauling costs.
The North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Emergency Hay Transportation Assistance Program deadline is Monday for reimbursement of personal and commercial transportation expenses eligible for the program.
The program will reimburse eligible producers for a portion of hay transportation expenses incurred from June 1 to Nov. 6.
There is a total of $1.5 million available. The amount of reimbursement each operator receives will be based on the total number of applicants. North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said personal transportation expenses are being calculated at $1.40 per loaded mile.
Producers who transported breeding livestock outside of drought counties are also eligible as is straw used for feed. Other feeds and supplements are not included.
Ranchers must provide verifiable records of livestock inventories and hay transportation expenses. Those interested in applying should go to NDDA’s website at www.nd.gov/ndda. Questions about filling out the application may be directed to 844-642-4752.
