Madler honored
Billie Madler of Bismarck, a State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence recipient, was honored during the recent American Academy of Nurse Practitioners national conference in Nashville.
The award recognizes excellence in practice, research, NP education or community affairs.
Madler graduated from the University of Mary with a bachelor's of science in nursing, then worked in an intensive care unit and as a flight nurse. After receiving her master's of science in nursing in 2001, she began her career as a family nurse practitioner, then joined the faculty of the U-Mary FNP program, which she currently coordinates, as well as working in the emergency room at St. Alexius Medical Center. She is pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice.
Sen. Judy Lee, R-West Fargo, was awarded the AANP North Dakota Nurse Practitioner Advocate of the year. She sponsored Senate Bill 2158 in the 2009 Legislature that allows NPs to be named as primary care providers for Medicaid patients.
Two appointed
BNC National Bank, Bismarck, recently announced appointments to leadership roles.
Dave Hoekstra has been appointed president of BNC National Bank's North Dakota market. A Bismarck native, Hoekstra has been with BNC for more than 14 years and also will continue to serve as the chief credit officer for all BNC markets.
Julie Andresen has been promoted to senior vice president of Trust and Financial Services. Andresen has been with BNC for more than 12 years and will oversee the wealth management, trust and financial services departments in all markets.
Bukowski certified
Laura Bukowski, a licensed registered dietitian with Mid Dakota Clinic, recently achieved certified diabetes educator status from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators by successfully completing a certification exam.
More than 16,000 diabetes educators hold NCBDE certification.
Doctor joins
Dr. Rhonda Schafer-McLean will join the obstetrics and gynecology department at the Mid Dakota Clinic Center for Women in late July.
Schafer-McLean received a doctor of philosophy degree in anatomy and cellular biology and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. She recently completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Butts selected
Linda Butts, deputy director of Driver and Vehicle Services at the North Dakota Department of Transportation, has been named treasurer of the international arm of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
Butts has been deputy director at the NDDOT since 2007. She also works on the enhanced driver's license and REAL ID legislation and Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
Steiner hired
Julie Steiner has joined the staff at The Village Family Service Center in Bismarck as a mental health professional.
She also serves as a social worker in the Adoption Option program, a collaboration between The Village and Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota.
Steiner worked in adoption services and as a behavioral health case manager for Chisago County Human Services in Center City, Minn.
She was a human relations counselor and advanced clinical specialist at West Central Human Services in Bismarck.
She earned her bachelor of arts degree in human services at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minn., and her master's in social work at the University of St. Thomas/College of St. Catherine in St. Paul.
Three certified
Three Medcenter One associates have become certified worksite wellness consultants.
Wanda Binstock, registered nurse; Melanie Carvell, physical therapist and Women's Health Center manager; and Kyle Darras, family nurse practitioner, recently participated in the Healthy North Dakota Worksite Wellness Consultant course sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Health in Bismarck.
Meyer joins staff
Board-certified pathologist Dr. Jason Meyer recently joined Medcenter One's pathology department.
Meyer received his medical degree at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He completed his pathology residency at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls and his hematopathology fellowship at Texas A&M College of Medicine in Temple, Texas.
Trainers certified
Samantha Melchior and Jessica Mehlhoff, athletic trainers at Medcenter One, recently became certified specialists in health ergonomics by ErgoRehab Inc.
ErgoRehab Inc. is a nationally recognized certifying agency for ergonomics.
Felchle attends
Deanne Felchle, North Dakota Tourism's group travel marketing director, recently attended the Travel Alliance Partners LLC conference in Rapid City, S.D.

Keller graduates
Nellie Keller, vice president-consumer banker with Northland Financial in Bismarck, recently graduated from the Dakota School of Banking, a two-year program sponsored by the North Dakota Bankers Association.
Keller has been in banking for many years and has been with Northland Financial since 2004.
Leingang honored
Dr. Gordon Leingang, a physician in the emergency and trauma center at St. Alexius Medical Center, received the Clinical Faculty of the Year Award from the physician assistant class of 2009 at Des Moines University.
He also received the UND Family Practice Contribution Award for 2009 from the UND Center for Family Medicine in Bismarck.
A native of Bismarck, Leingang graduated from the University of Mary and received his medical degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines.

Two legal assistants at David R. Bliss LLC in Bismarck have been admitted to law school.
Micheal Mulloy, a 2008 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Mary, will begin studies this fall at the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence, Kan.
Jenna Cieslak, also a 2008 summa cum laude graduate of U-Mary, will begin studies this fall at the University of Minnesota School of Law in Minneapolis.
Schauer appointed
Gov. John Hoeven has appointed Dr. Douglas Schauer, Medcenter One audiologist, to the North Dakota Board of Examiners on Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, which licenses speech/language pathologists and audiologists in North Dakota.
Schauer has worked as an audiologist for Medcenter One Hearing Centers in Jamestown for 13 years.
Opticians certified
Three members of the Dakota Eye Institute staff recently became certified opticians.
LaDawn Tuck, Jaycie Klabunde and Lindsey Nelson were certified through the American Board of Opticianry after passing the National Opticianry Competency Exam, which measures technical optical dispensing knowledge.

Jessica Helgeson has been chosen the Bismarck Transition Center's employee of the quarter for the second quarter of 2009.
Helgeson has been employed at BTC since May 2003 and is a counselor technician.

Renae Moch has been named clinic manager for Medcenter One Bismarck Family Clinic South.
Moch previously worked as office manager at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health.
Fogarty published
Dr. Edward Fogarty, a board-certified radiologist at Medcenter One, co-wrote a case study that was recently published in the medical journal Cases Journal.
The case study concluded that low-pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy caused a reduction in symptoms and signs of chronic mild to moderate blast-induced traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Eberle joins
Jennifer Eberle has joined the staff of Heartland Child Nutrition, a statewide sponsor of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program, as regional director for Morton, Emmons, Oliver, Mercer, Sioux, Logan and McIntosh counties.
Eberle most recently worked as a licensed child-care provider for five years. She has an associate of arts degree in business studies from Bismarck State College.
Crawford hired
The North Dakota Department of Human Services has hired Joseph "Jay" Crawford to lead the department's disaster preparedness, response and recovery efforts, previously handled by the department's legal services unit.
Crawford has extensive experience in risk management and insurance, occupational safety, employer disaster preparedness planning and environmental protection. He holds a master's degree in environmental science from North Dakota State University.
Prior to joining the department, he was employed by Bismarck State College as the OSHA safety and health consultant.
Albrecht with bank
David Albrecht of Mandan has been hired as a business banker at Starion Financial's downtown Bismarck bank.
Albrecht brings five years of banking experience, sales and customer service skills to his position.
He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from North Dakota State University.
Regan hired
Tom Regan has been hired as marketing director at Dakota MEP.
Regan brings experience in fundraising, marketing, strategic planning, public relations, recruiting and market research in various industries. In addition, he is a freelance writer and author-producer of the "10 Steps to Telephone Excellence" DVD and CD.

Goldsack awarded
Jerry Goldsack, metal division manager of Rough Rider Industries, received the National Corrections Industries Association Western Region's 2009 National Staff Award during the group's national conference in Dallas.
Goldsack was nominated for the award by his co-workers because of the improvements he has instituted in the metal division during his 20 years of service to the Rough Rider Industries program.

Hysjulien chosen
Edgewood Management Group LLC has named Gene Hysjulien of Bismarck its vice president of operations for Region I.
Hysjulien will oversee operations at the five Edgewood Vista senior living communities and three Edgewood Village senior living neighborhoods in Bismarck, Minot, Fargo and Spearfish, S.D. Hysjulien, who will be located in Bismarck, also will directly oversee Edgewood Village and Edgewood Vista in Bismarck.
Hysjulien had been EMG's president/chief executive officer since 2006.
Originally from Crosby, Hysjulien earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Minot State University and his master's in social service administration from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He has more than 37 years of healthcare experience, including administrative positions in public and private industry.
