Riverboat given recognition

WASHINGTON - The Lewis & Clark Riverboat has been selected for the 2009 Best of Bismarck Award in the excursion boat operators category by the U.S. Commerce Association.

Each year, the USCA identifies companies that it believes have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local communities and business category.

The Washington-based USCA is funded by local businesses throughout the United States to promote local business through public relations, marketing and advertising.

Family physicians honor Vetter

The North Dakota Academy of Family Physicians elected new officers and honored several members during its 54th annual meeting in Fargo.

Honorees included Dr. Richard Vetter, Fargo, who was named the state's top family physician. His name will be submitted to the American Academy of Family Physicians next year for consideration at the national level.

Vetter has been in family medicine for more than 18 years. He graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

He is the son of August and Loretta Vetter of Linton and the son-in-law of Bernhard and Katie Weigel of Napoleon.

Officers elected and installed were president, Vetter; president-elect, Dr. Jacinta Klindworth, Beulah; vice president, Dr. Wade Talley, Minot; secretary-treasurer, Dr. Jeff Hostetter, Bismarck; and chairman of the board of directors, Dr. Steven Glunberg, Fargo.

Bismarck child gets Kohl's award

Kohl's Department Stores recently honored more than 2,000 children nationwide for the good deeds they performed in their communities through volunteerism as part of the Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program.

Skylar Schreiner, 8, Bismarck, was among six youth from North Dakota to receive $50 gift cards and recognition certificates from Kohl's for making a difference in their communities.

These winners qualified for the chance to receive a $1,000 regional scholarship for post-secondary education that Kohl's will award in July.

Ten national winners will receive an additional $5,000 scholarship and donations of $1,000 to a nonprofit organization of the national winners' choice.
