About 2,400 barrels of fresh water were spilled on a oil drilling rig site in McKenzie County Tuesday.

The fresh water is used in the oil drilling process but does not contain any contaminants. The North Dakota Department of Health is visiting the site to verify the spill was fresh water and determine if any remediation is required.

The spill occurred when a storage tank failed on a site 4 miles southwest of Keene.
