A fire possibly from a lightning strike caused an oil and saltwater spill at a saltwater disposal site east of Arnegard, N.D.

According to the official spill report, the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. May 27.

The spill report to the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services said that 100 barrels of oil and 350 barrels of salt brine were spilled in the incident and 60 barrels of oil and 300 barrels of brine were recovered.

The local fire department sprayed more than 2,300 barrels of water into a dike containment area and more than 2,200 of those barrels also were recovered, according to the report.

The company, SBG Arnegard Facility LLC, said the spill was fully contained within the protective dike.
