Salvation Army needs bell ringers

The Salvation Army has begun its annual fundraising campaign with a goal of $251,000, which will be used to support Christmas assistance and ongoing year-round programs.

About half, or $125,000 of the goal, will be raised during the traditional bell ringing campaign.

Volunteers are needed to ring the bell and volunteer opportunities are available at 13 different locations. Individuals and groups can volunteer by contacting Paul Mahin at 223-1889. Indoor and outdoor locations are available. Two-hour or longer shifts are available.

Senior citizens fellowship is today

"Something Special for Senior Citizens," a senior citizens ministry at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1004 E. Highland Acres Road, Bismarck, will have its Christmas fellowship time at 2 p.m. today at the church.

This month's theme is "Holidays: Family, Friends, Fun and Food."

People are invited to bring appetizers and dessert, along with a favorite family or friend holiday photo, recipe, craft or ornament to share. Those who need a ride may call the church office at 223-1001. Attendees also are invited to bring friends.

Christian women's groups to meet

Three groups of the Bismarck-Mandan Christian Women's Club will meet Thursday in Bismarck.

A "Sing for Joy" brunch will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Bismarck Eagles Club, 313 N. 26th St., for a cost of $7. Music will be a singalong with the Beseler Sisters. Judy Siegle of Fargo, a two-time Paralympian and national record holder, will speak on "Running the Race," about an auto accident that left her paralyzed. For tickets, call Cheryl at 258-6191 or Gertie at 223-7127.

"Celebrating Life" noon luncheon begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Municipal Country Club, 930 N. Griffin St., Bismarck. A Christmas singalong and a mini-concert by The Faithful Four is planned; Seigel will be the speaker. For nursery and luncheon reservations, call Jan at 222-8558 or Carol at 667-8714. The cost is $8.

Siegle will speak on "Running the Race" at the After 5 dinner at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Country Club. Music will be by the Teen Challenge Singers, directed by Dawna Hagerott. For reservations, call Lenora at 223-0912 or Rosemary at 255-2560 or e-mail pegharms@;bis.midco.net. The cost is $8.50.

Reservations and cancellations for any of the three meeting are necessary by Tuesday.

'Different Christmas' slated at St. Joseph

Those who have lost a loved one recently or in the past are invited to "A Different Christmas" at St. Joseph Church in Mandan at 1 p.m. Dec. 14.

This time is open to anyone, Catholic and non-Catholic. The Rev. Patrick Schumacher will open with a prayer. The guest speaker is aftercare counselor Carleen Hennenfent. The closing event will be the decorating of a memorial Christmas tree.

Charity Lutheran kids doing program

The children of Charity Lutheran Church will perform their Christmas program, "Dr. Newheart's Christmas Cure," at 10:45 a.m. Sunday and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Charity Lutheran is at 120 Aspen Ave., Bismarck.

Classical Christmas concert at Mandan

Messiah Lutheran Church in Mandan will present its Classical Christmas Concert at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the church, 1020 Boundary Road N.W.

Guest performers include Jeremy Overbeck, cellist, Century High School vocal and orchestral ensembles, and the Rev. James Baneck, organ.

The public is welcome. A freewill offering will be taken.
