BISMARCK, DEVILS LAKE TOP POLLS

Bismarck and Devils Lake, last year’s runners-up in Class AAA and AA, respectively, are atop the first North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters poll of 2008.

Bismarck, a 35-8 winner over Fargo North in its opener, garnered eight first-place votes. Two-time defending state champ Fargo South is second and drew four first-place votes despite getting thumped by Edina, Minn., 40-6. Century is ranked fifth.

In AA, Devils Lake grabbed the top spot after defeating Dickinson Trinity 21-8 in a matchup of the preseason favorites in Regions 1 and 2. Hazen took the second spot, with defending champ Fargo Oak Grove third, Watford City fourth and Trinity fifth.

BOBCATS ROSTER

Former Bismarck High standouts Andrew Seeberg and Will Aide are among the 30 players on the Bismarck Bobcats’ roster heading into preseason. Aide is in his third season with the team, Seeberg his first.

The Bobcats have four preseason games, all at home. Bismarck will host the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Friday and Saturday. The following weekend they will play host to the Alexandria Blizzard.

TIMBERWOLVES CAMP

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Junior Wolves Staff will be hosting a kids basketball clinic before the team’s preseason game in Bismarck on Oct. 19.

The clinic will take place at the Bismarck Civic Center from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tipoff for the Timberwolves’ game against Denver is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The clinic will be open to boys and girls in grades 2-8 who have a ticket to the game.
