The public is invited from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday to the Railroad Museum for Railroad Days. It is the Railroad Museum's 23rd anniversary.At 3 p.m., the Cowboy Action Performers of Mandan will stage "The Great Train Robbery." At 4 p.m., Tony Hopfauf, a Northern Pacific track man living in Mandan, will be inducted into the North Dakota Railroad Hall of Fame.
Other events include a railroad photo contest. Cash prizes will be awarded in two divisions, early railroading (photos prior to 1970) and modern railroading (photos after 1970). Anyone interested in submitting a railroad photo should bring the photo to Railroad Days between noon and 1 p.m. Sunday.
Between 1 and 5 p.m., there will be a live steam presentation by Ed Duke of Hensler, speeder displays by John Beck and railroad modelers are invited to have questions answered. Railroad old-timers will be present to visit with and tell old railroad stories, or visitors may try their skills at spike driving, spike pulling, rail walking, rail car moving, telegraphy and morse code.
A "hobo banquet" will be served including hot dogs, brats and beans.
The Railroad Museum is located off I-94 at Exit 152 and north on Old Red Trail to 37th Street. Follow the RR Museum signs. Admission is free; however, donations are welcome. For questions, call the museum at 663-9322.
