The bareback riding at the Mandan Rodeo saw a logjam at the top.

Zach Curran of Arvada, Colo., Scott Montague of Interior, S.D., and Dustin Reeves of Owanka, S.D., entered Friday's competition tied for the top spot with 80 points.

Sam Nordick of Mohall added a fourth name to the top of the list of the with another 80-point ride on Friday.

Shortly after Nordick's ride, Travis Sharp of Interior, S.D., bumped them all back. Sharp posted a score of 84 to take home the top prize money in the final day of the rodeo.

"All of those guys are my buddies," Sharp said of the competitors who turned in an 80. "We've got a lot of tough guys in this circuit. I am tickled to beat them one time."

Sharp, 25, drew one of the better horses Boogers Pet. The bronc was named the Badlands Circuit Horse of the Year and was used in the Wrangler National Finals.

"When you draw a horse like that, it's tough not to win," Sharp said. "She kicks well. I knew if I did my part I would win or place high."

Sharp said he is sitting 10th or 11th in the Badlands Circuit standings. He hasn't competed in very many rodeos this summer because he ranches with his dad and gas prices have curbed his travel.

The Fourth of July was a special one for saddle bronc rider Jesse Wilson. The Kyle, S.D., cowboy turned in the top overall score with an 87 on a horse named Queenie.

It was Wilson's top pro score and the first time he brought home a check this summer.

"She's a phenomenal horse," Wilson said. "She's the kind you want to draw. You will win or place on her. You always have a feeling you can score high on a horse like that if you can stay on her."

Wilson, 23, rode Queenie two years ago at a rodeo in Dickinson and placed second.

"She jumps so far in the air and has a lot of timing to her," said Wilson, who has competed in the Mandan Rodeo for five straight years. "But I never feel like I'm in control, ever."

The rodeo was delayed several minutes when steer wrestler Clint Doll of Prairie City, S.D., was hit in the face while transitioning from his horse. Doll was tended to by the EMTs at the rodeo and taken away by ambulance.

Clay Shaack posted the top time of 3.5 seconds in steer wrestling. The Wall, S.D., cowboy took top overall honors in the event.

The team roping team of Guy Howell of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Jake Nelson of Creighton, S.D., turned in Friday's top time of 5.6 in team roping.

Howell and Nelson tied for the top overall time with Cody Hutchison and Coy Thompson of Whitewood, S.D.

Just one bull rider turned in a score on Friday. Charles Zoss of Forestburg, S.D., finished with 76 points. Cole Hermanson of Mandan was the overall winner with an 87.

Jesse Childers of Cameron, Texas, picked up Friday's top time in tie down roping with 9.1. seconds. Steve Brickey of Talequah, Okla., was the overall winner with a time of 7.8 seconds.
