STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA
PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.
A Division of MDU Resources Group, Inc.
Transmission Facility Cost Recovery (2017)
Rates

Case No. PU-17-468

NOTICE OF OPPORTUNITY FOR HEARING
November 29, 2017
On May 16, 2012, the Public Service Commission issued an order
approving a Transmission Cost Recovery (TCR) tariff rider pursuant to North
Dakota Century Code Section 49-05-04.3 for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.,
a Division of MDU Resources Group, Inc. (MDU). On November 21, 2017,
(MDU) led an annual update to its transmission cost recovery rider rate.
This proposed rate change includes updated electric transmission expenses,
revenues and a true-up amount from the current rate:
Customer Class
Residential &
Small General

Existingg Rate
$0.00413/kWh

Proposed
p
Rate
$0.00523

Change
g
$0.00110 /kWh

Large General

$0.00350/kWh

$0.00444

$0.00094 /kWh

Lighting
$0.00161/kWh
$0.00204
$0.00043 /kWh
The effect on a typical bill for a residential customer without electric
space heating using 894 kWh per month would be an increase of $0.99 per
month. The issues to be considered in this proceeding are:
1. Whether the investments and associated costs for the new or modied
electric transmission facilities qualify for recovery,
2. Whether the incurred costs are reasonable and prudent, and
3. Whether the rate adjustments are consistent with the terms of MDU’s
tariff.
Those interested are invited to comment on the application in
writing. Persons desiring a hearing must le a written request identifying
their interest in the proceeding and the reasons for requesting a hearing.
Comments and requests for hearing must be received by January 16, 2018.
If deemed appropriate, the Commission can determine the matter without
a hearing.
